2024 Election: Be ready to either win or lose – Goodluck Jonathon to candidates

Former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, has urged all candidates in Ghana’s 2024 general elections to conduct themselves peacefully during and after the elections on Saturday, December 7.

He emphasized that stakeholders are yearning for peaceful, transparent, and credible polls.

Speaking during a meeting with the National Election Security Taskforce on Thursday, December 5, Jonathan said, “We want elections that will be peaceful, transparent, and credible, and then all the stakeholders will be happy. Just like the IGP said, we will plead with our own colleagues who are politicians to be peaceful.

“Only one person wins in an election, and so whenever you are going for an election, you should be ready to either win or lose.”

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, earlier told the political parties to cooperate with the police to ensure incident-free elections this year.

He assured that the police are ready to ensure law and order during and after the polls but will require the support of all stakeholders, including the parties.

Speaking in a meeting with representatives of the political parties in Accra on Thursday, November 21, Dr. Dampare told them that as they prepare to celebrate their possible victory, they should also have a plan on how to endure their possible defeat.

“As you plan to celebrate your possible victory, plan to also celebrate your defeat or endure it, knowing that only one will win,” he said.

He further stated, “As long as everybody plays their role, Ghana will win.
