524 African And Caribbean Descendants Have Officially Become Ghanaian Citizens
On November 19, 2024, Ghana warmly welcomed 524 new citizens from the African-American and Caribbean diaspora! This milestone was celebrated at the Accra International Conference Centre under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo.
These individuals, now officially Ghanaian, symbolize the ongoing connection between Africa and its global diaspora. The Year of Return in 2019 set the stage for this initiative, encouraging people to reconnect with their ancestral roots and contribute to Ghana’s cultural and economic growth. Programs like Beyond the Return have since attracted thousands to call Ghana their home.
This ceremony wasn’t just about receiving citizenship—it’s about embracing Ghanaian values of respect, equity, and peace while working together to reshape perceptions of Africa.
