Fire claims two young lives at Akyem Oda

Two young lives have been tragically lost while a mother fights for survival following a devastating fire that ravaged their home in Akyem Oda in the Eastern Region.

The victims, 6-year-old Clement Agyei and 4-year-old Desmond Agyei, perished in the blaze, while their mother and a third sibling sustained severe injuries.

The fire, which engulfed a three-bedroom house, resulted in the loss of property worth thousands of Ghana Cedis.

The fire broke out late evening on May 12, 2024, trapping the family in a locked room, as recounted by the deceased’s Aunt, Portia Effah.
Efforts to rescue them by heroic, young men in the neighbourhood saved the mother and another sibling from the inferno.

However, despite these efforts, the two children could not be make it alive.
The family, now left homeless and grieving, appeals for support in their time of need.

“We beg for support, times are hard, We have lost our building, our children, and all our belongings. A little support would be appreciated,” pleaded by Auntie Portia Effah.

An eyewitness, Mary Brew, said an electrical fault may have caused the tragedy, noting that the house had recently been connected to electricity.
Despite efforts to rescue everyone, the arrival of Ghana National Fire Service personnel was too late to prevent the devastating loss of life.

“There was pandemonium, after the woman and a child was saved, she returned shouting, two more kids were in the inferno. None could enter to rescue them unfortunately. The Fire Service personnel came in later to quench the fire and bring out the bodies,” the eyewitness said.
