WE ARE YET TO MEET LEGALISATION REQUIREMENT- KOJO ADANDE
The Okada Riders Association of Ghana (ORAG) has expressed its concern on the frustration of some motor riders over the delay in the legalization process for commercial motorcycle riders.

On October 6th, 2025, the National Secretary of ORAG, Mr. Adande Kojo, speaking on Lucky TV Newsroom, revealed that the association is yet to meet the requirement for legalization, despite the government’s promise.
According to the National Secretary, the government had promised to introduce the bill to parliament once they resume, but some motor riders are growing impatient. “Constitutionally, once presented to parliament, the process would take 21 days before it can assent as a bill. The association would then react if the government failed to meet the promise,” he warned.
However, he urged all riders and members of the association to remain calm, assuring them that the incumbent government will deliver. ORAG has to conduct trainings for at least 10 out of the 16 regions across the country before the legalization process can be rendered effective when it officially becomes a bill.
Currently, the association has trained some members across six out of the ten regions to be completed. The training covers road safety principles, DVLA regulations, and other security-related issues.
The association is ensuring that riders meet the necessary requirements, including being at least 21 years old, having a valid license and undergoing the necessary training before the legalization process take place. “We want to make sure that the structure of the legalization process is rightly established, so that a change of government cannot affect its functionality,” the National Secretary explained.

The association is also learning, exploring and adapting unity from other drivers’ unions like the Ghana Private Road and Transport Union, (GPRTU). “We are like other drivers’ union and association hence we want to unite with other small riders’ unions in the country,” the National Secretary said.
ORAG is urging motor riders across the country to register and join the association so they can also enjoy the benefits of the legalization process. “We are following up on the promise the government made, so our members should be registered and join the association to enjoy the benefits,” the National Secretary emphasized.
