“I’M JEALOUS” – SOUND ENGINEER FREDYMA LAMENTS 8 YEARS OF NEGLECT UNDER NPP DESPITE POLITICAL SUPPORT

Veteran sound engineer expresses disappointment over exclusion from government creative industry initiatives, hopes Bawumia will remember him*

Veteran sound engineer Fred Kyei Mensah, popularly known as Fredyma has expressed disappointment over what he describes as years of neglect by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) despite his support for the party.

Speaking on Joy Prime on March 5, 2026, Fredyma said he felt hurt that he had not been considered for opportunities over the past eight years, despite being actively involved in politics and the creative industry.

“See what President Mahama has done for Rex Omar and other creatives, I’m jealous of it. I’ve suffered for eight years, but there’s nothing to show for it,” he said.

He lamented that while the president travels around the world taking creatives along, he was consistently excluded.

Fredyma expressed hope that former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia might remember him if he were to have the opportunity to lead the country.

“I hope or maybe if Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia comes, he will remember me. It hurts me so bad,” he said.

The sound engineer revealed he had several concepts to promote Ghana’s creative industry that were never considered, including visiting schools to discover musical talent.

“I had a concept that we would go to the various schools, record Achimota one song, and put them on social media,” he explained. “I said it to them, but they mind me, but now, President Mahama is implementing it.”

Despite being a professional sound engineer, Fredyma said he was rarely contacted for programs or projects.

“As a sound engineer, there’s no day that they would go for a program and they would ask me to come and fix a mixer,” he shared.

“You can sacrifice for a political party as a creative person. I had a lot of concepts, but none of them was considered. I was neglected and it’s sad,” he added.
