Pregnant Teenager Shot by Stray Bullet at Funeral in Ashanti Region
19-year-old victim undergoing treatment at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital after incident at Hiawu-Besiase in Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency.
A 19-year-old pregnant woman has been injured by a stray bullet during a funeral ceremony at Hiawu-Besiase in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency of the Ashanti Region.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2026, during the burial rites of a queen mother in the community.
The victim, identified as Serwaa Alice, was struck by the bullet while residents were indoors during the ceremony.
According to an eyewitness, people in the area heard a sudden gunshot and rushed outside to find out what had happened. They were later informed by a relative that Serwaa Alice had been hit by a stray bullet.
She was quickly taken to a nearby Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound, where health workers provided initial treatment before referring her to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for further medical care.
The victim is currently receiving treatment at the facility, where doctors are preparing to perform surgery to remove her unborn baby, who reportedly died as a result of the gunshot wound.
Her family has appealed to authorities to assist them in addressing the situation and ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice.
