Government to Recruit 7,000 Teachers Nationwide
Haruna Iddrisu announces recruitment drive aimed at addressing staffing shortages and improving access to education in underserved and rural communities

The government has unveiled plans to recruit at least 7,000 teachers nationwide to address staffing gaps in schools and enhance access to education, especially in underserved and rural communities.
Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu revealed the initiative during a media briefing on Wednesday, April 1, noting that the recruitment exercise has received financial approval.
The application process is set to begin on April 10, when the recruitment portal will open to qualified graduates from the 2023, 2024, and 2025 cohorts.
“I am pleased to announce that the Ministry of Education has received clearance from the Ministry of Finance to recruit teachers across the country. We aim to bring in at least 7,000 teachers through an open, transparent, and competitive process,” he said. “Priority will be given to those willing to serve in deprived and hard-to-reach areas.”
The recruitment drive is expected to relieve pressure on the education system by filling critical vacancies, particularly in rural and remote districts where teacher shortages have been a persistent challenge. Authorities emphasized that the exercise will be conducted fairly and competitively to strengthen teaching quality nationwide.
