Rainstorm Collapses Building, Claims Life of 4-Year-Old in Awutu

Elder brother in critical condition as authorities warn of structural risks ahead of rainy season

A tragic building collapse during a heavy downpour has claimed the life of a four-year-old boy, Godsway Nutsugah, while leaving his 35-year-old brother, Seth Nutsugah, in critical condition at Awutu Papaase Number 1 in the Awutu Senya West District.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, as the two siblings were reportedly asleep in their “Atakpame” structure when it caved in under the force of the rains.

Rescue teams and residents rushed to the scene to pull them from the rubble. The younger boy was pronounced dead shortly after being retrieved, while his elder brother was quickly transported to the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital for urgent medical care.

Confirming the incident in an interview with Adom News, the Awutu Senya West District Director of National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Salifu Adams, urged residents to take precautions as the rainy season begins.

He added that authorities will conduct a comprehensive assessment of buildings in the area to identify and address structures at risk of collapse.
