Ghana Police Service detains two over robbery that killed footballer Dominic Frimpong on Bibiani–Goaso road

The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of a suspected gang leader and an accomplice in connection with the armed robbery attack on the Berekum Chelsea team bus, which led to the death of footballer Dominic Frimpong.

The incident occurred on the Bibiani–Goaso road after the team returned from a Ghana Premier League match against FC Samartex. Armed men reportedly blocked the road and opened fire when the driver attempted to escape, forcing players and officials to flee into nearby bushes.

Frimpong, a 20-year-old forward on loan from Aduana FC, sustained a gunshot wound and was later pronounced dead at the Bibiani Government Hospital. Six other players suffered minor injuries.

Police launched an investigation immediately after the attack, leading to the arrest of two suspects. One of them is currently receiving treatment after being injured during a shootout with police operatives.
