Energy Minister Meets Power Distributors Over Persistent Outages

John Abdulai Jinapor pushes for urgent action to improve electricity supply

The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has held a high-level meeting with key players in the power sector to assess ongoing challenges and address persistent outages across parts of the country.

The engagement brought together the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), and other stakeholders to review the current state of electricity distribution and develop strategies to resolve isolated outages.

Discussions focused on operational constraints within the distribution chain, including overloaded transformers and outdated infrastructure, which continue to affect reliable power supply.

Dr Jinapor noted that many of these infrastructure gaps should have been addressed earlier, especially as electricity demand has surged due to urbanisation and economic growth.

He added that the John Dramani Mahama-led administration is making significant investments to modernise and expand the country’s power infrastructure to improve system reliability.

The Minister has tasked ECG and NEDCo to intensify efforts and ensure a rapid and coordinated response to reported outages, stressing the need for timely service delivery and clear communication with the public.

He further assured Ghanaians that the government is working with urgency to resolve the remaining pockets of outages and improve electricity supply nationwide.
