Ghana Expresses Condolences to Mali After Terrorist Attacks
Government urges Ghanaians in Mali to exercise caution amid worsening security situation
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ghana has issued a security advisory to Ghanaians in Mali following recent coordinated terrorist attacks that have heightened tensions in the Sahel region.
In a press release dated April 27, 2026, the Government of Ghana expressed deep concern over the escalating security situation, particularly the attacks carried out on April 25 on several military positions, including in the capital, Bamako.
The attacks reportedly resulted in the death of Mali’s Minister of Defence, Sadio Camara, along with several military personnel and civilians.
Ghana extended its condolences to the government and people of Mali, describing the incident as a tragic development and wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
“Violent extremism must have no place in our world, and we must step up collective efforts to end this horror,” the statement said.
As part of immediate precautionary measures, Ghanaians living in Mali have been advised to exercise vigilance, limit non-essential movement, and maintain regular contact with the Ghanaian Embassy in Bamako.
Additionally, Ghanaian traders and drivers operating along the Mali route have been urged to suspend travel until further notice due to safety concerns.
The government indicated that it is working closely with Malian authorities to monitor the situation and will provide updates as conditions improve to allow the safe resumption of activities.
Ghana reaffirmed its support for Mali and assured its citizens that their safety and well-being remain a top priority.
