NACOC Seizes 5 Million Tapentadol Tablets in Major Drug Bust
Four suspects arrested as authorities intercept trailer bound for Niger in intelligence-led operation

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has intercepted a 40-foot trailer transporting five million tablets of Tapentadol 250mg in a significant anti-drug operation.
The shipment, which was en route to Niger, was seized during a coordinated intelligence-driven exercise, described by authorities as one of the largest pharmaceutical drug interceptions in recent times.
Four individuals have been arrested in connection with the consignment and are currently in custody, assisting with ongoing investigations. Officials believe the suspects are linked to a broader trafficking network involved in the cross-border distribution of controlled substances.

Tapentadol, a potent opioid pain medication, is tightly regulated due to its high risk of addiction and potential for abuse.
The drug is often misused for its opioid effects, which can result in severe health consequences, including dependency and long-term damage.
NACOC has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening surveillance and enforcement efforts to curb the trafficking of harmful drugs within Ghana and beyond.
The Commission also disclosed that it is collaborating with international partners to trace the source of the shipment and uncover the intended distribution channels.
“NACOC is working to dismantle the network behind the consignment,” the Commission said.
Investigations remain ongoing as authorities intensify efforts to combat organised drug trafficking and protect public health.
