Be patient, gov’t working to create more jobs – Asiedu Nketiah to Ghanaians

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has urged party members and Ghanaians to remain patient amid the low number of applicants for the country’s security services.
He emphasized that the government’s priority is to boost the economy and generate jobs for Ghanaian youth. This comes after the Interior Minister, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, revealed that over 105,000 applicants qualified for the medical stage of recruitment, even though only 5,000 positions were available for final enlistment. The Minister also mentioned that nearly 500,000 people had applied.
During a speech to party supporters in Dodowa, Greater Accra, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah warned that rushing to address the issue could be counterproductive, stressing that effective solutions require time.
“The anger will not solve the problem. Without enough funds, we cannot employ more than we need. Fixing issues takes time. Our main focus is to strengthen the economy, and President Mahama is working hard on this.”
He added, “We are already seeing some benefits. We need to be patient so these efforts can create opportunities for all.”
He further cautioned, “Impatience will not help. Let us be patient. Things will get better, and this government is committed to opening opportunities for everyone.”
Meanwhile, the Minority in Parliament has requested that the Ministry of the Interior refund about GH¢113 million collected from applicants who did not qualify in the recruitment process.
