Bringing a fresh perspective to Ghanaian music – Smith Junior

Salifu Muniru, known in the music world as Smith Junior, began his journey in the quiet town of Zebilla in Ghana’s Upper East Region. Born into a family where his late father was a devoted fan of legendary musicians like Kojo Antwi, Daddy Lumba, and Amakye Dede, Smith Junior was deeply influenced by their music from a young age. Although he wasn’t one of the top performance in his class academically, his passion for music burned brightly.

At the age of 17, Smith Junior left his familiar surroundings and moved to Accra, the bustling capital of Ghana. He settled in Mamobi, a vibrant neighborhood, and started working alongside his elder brother in the phone business at Circle, handling sales and repairs. Despite the demanding work, Smith Junior never let go of his musical dreams.

Before moving to Accra, he had recorded a few songs in the north, but it was in the capital where his musical path began to take shape. Fate played a hand when his management team, led by Budu, came to repair his phone. Impressed by Smith Junior’s freestyle performance, Budu saw potential in him and invited him to the studio. This was the turning point in Smith Junior’s career.

Today, Smith Junior has three official singles to his name, including his latest hit “How Come,” featuring Kurl Songx. His previous tracks, “Odo” and “Mama,” have also resonated with his growing fan base. His music reflects his roots and his journey from the north to Accra, capturing the essence of his experiences and aspirations.

Smith Junior remains deeply grateful for his management team, describing them as “family” and appreciating their unwavering support. With dreams of collaborating with some of Ghana’s top artists like Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, and Stonebwoy, he is committed to making a significant mark in the music industry.

From the serene landscapes of Zebilla to the dynamic streets of Accra, he has come to cross oceans of challenges not to merely watch the sea but to make waves of his own.
