CHRISTIANITY IS A MAJOR CAUSE OF POVERTY IN GHANA, A CLASS 4 PUPILS BOOK REVEALS
A class 4 history textbook on the market purported to be approved by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), has ignited a wave of anger and calls for repercussions due to a page that attributes Ghana’s high levels of poverty to Christianity and other factors.
The book titled “History of Ghana for Basic Schools” and authored by Francis Benjamin Appiah and Henry David Appiah has a page that discusses the perceived negative impacts of Christian missionary activities, claiming that the religion has led to physical and doctrinal disputes in Ghana.
Lucky TV sources revealed that, page 56 of the document had indeed received approval, but in a press release dated May 25, NaCCA says it has called for the withdrawal of the textbook. They indicated that the withdrawal is to allow for further checks and ensure that the issues raised with the content are resolved.
