COVID-19 PANDEMIC IS OFFICIALLY OVER IN GHANA – President Akufo-Addo declares.
In the President’s 29th televised address since the declaration of COVID-19 as a pandemic in March 2020, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced the official end of the COVID-19 pandemic in Ghana.
The declaration, made on May 28, 2023, was based on a decision reached during a meeting of the National COVID-19 Taskforce on May 17, 2023.
President Akufo-Addo highlighted that this decision was influenced by the World Health Organization’s classification of the pandemic as no longer being deemed a global health emergency.
Consequently, all remaining restrictions imposed during the COVID-19 era have been lifted.
Notably, this includes the removal of requirements such as mandatory testing for all incoming passengers at Kotoka International Airport.
The President emphasized that Ghana’s airports have returned to pre-COVID requirements, signifying a significant milestone in the nation’s fight against the pandemic.
