Anita Love Obo Amissah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly, shares an inspiring story of resilience, dedication, and leadership.
Anita grew up in Anomabo, where she learned the value of hard work and perseverance. Despite not being spoon-fed, she carved a path for herself with the support of her family. She attended Mfantsiman Senior High School and later went to Fosu Training College, thanks to her mother’s support. She pursued a diploma at Ola Training College for two years and furthered her education with a degree from Winneba University, also for two years.
Throughout her educational journey, Anita exhibited leadership qualities. In college, she served as the Deputy Women’s Prefect and Library Prefect, although her mates laughed at her because she worked on a farm with her grandmother to support her household.
Anita’s family background shaped her work ethic and values. Her mother was a teacher, and her father was a driver. She is married and has two children, balancing her professional life with her personal commitments. She has been teaching for 20 years, a testament to her dedication to education and community service.
Anita’s career in teaching began with her national service at Breku, after which she was transferred to Kasoa Saint Martha’s Roman School. There, she met Honorable Hawa Koomson, and they became friends through their shared passion for teaching. She later taught at the Presbyterian School and became the headmistress at Edubrompomor M/A in 2020.
Her political journey started at Fosu Training College, where she was involved in Tescon during Kuffour’s tenure. This early involvement in politics laid the foundation for her future role as MCE.
As the MCE, Anita has been tackling significant challenges in Awutu Senya East, particularly sanitation. The community faces issues with cleanliness, and she has implemented several interventions to address this. A law was enacted to fine and punish those who litter, and Zoomlion workers are actively helping to maintain the area’s cleanliness.
Regarding land tensions, Anita acknowledges the efforts of security forces to ensure stability and peace. She emphasizes the importance of proper land analysis between Awutu Senya East and Ga-South, facilitated by the ministry.
Anita is a strong advocate for girl child education, proudly noting the progress in her community. She continues to support initiatives like “One Girl – One Pad,” which aims to ensure that girls have access to necessary resources.
Addressing the issue of intermittent power supply (Dumsor), when asked by the host Ama Papabi, Anita called for patience, reminding people of the years of stable electricity they have enjoyed. She is confident that the problem is being resolved and stability will return soon.
Anita also talks about her value of family time and ensures she balances her health and work commitments. She remains passionate about teaching and continues to serve her community in this capacity.
Anita is open to the possibility of serving as a Member of Parliament (MP). Regardless of the outcome, she is committed to serving the citizens and working towards their betterment.
