EKON CHIEF ISSUES ULTIMATUM TO GOVERNMENT OVER SEA DEFENSE

Ekon, Cape Coast – Nana Kwame Edu Ababio III, Odzikro of Ekon, a fishing community in the Cape Coast Metropolitan together with his Elders and Residents in a desperate cry for help, has given the government a two-month ultimatum to provide sea defense and breakwater for the coastal community. Failure to do so will lead to unrest, they warned.

Addressing a press conference, Nana Kwame Edu Ababio III expressed frustration over the government’s inaction despite repeated pleas. Neighboring towns like Moree, Egyaa 1 & 2, and some part of Cape Coast have received sea defense and breakwater, but Ekon remains vulnerable.

The devastating impact is, Tidal waves have destroyed over 150 houses, crippling the fishing industry and devastating the community. Fishermen can no longer land on the beaches, resulting in significant income loss and struggling families. The local economy suffers as businesses fold.
Ekon’s existence is threatened by sea erosion. The chief’s ultimatum comes after years of unfulfilled promises by both past and present government. The community demands immediate action to address the crisis.

The tidal wave crisis has brought Ekon to its knees. The community is struggling to survive, and their pleas for help have fallen on deaf ears.

Residents, who spoke to the media after the press conference, shared heart-wrenching stories of how the tidal wave crisis has affected their lives.

They lamented that; They can no longer provide for their families, Marriages are collapsing due to economic hardship, People are fleeing the town in search of greener pastures.
