Election Violence Often Targets Young People; Prioritize Peace – Nana Kobina Mankata

Abura Tetsi, Central Region – Nana Kobina Mankata I, Gyasehene of Abura Tetsi, has cautioned the general public to prioritize peace as Ghana approaches the December general elections. Speaking during his one-year anniversary celebration on the stool and the Yam Festival at Abura Tetsi, Nana Mankata emphasized the need for peaceful coexistence, particularly among the youth.

The traditional leader expressed concern that election violence often targets young people, urging parents to educate their children on the importance of avoiding violence during the elections. He cited examples of countries like Burundi, where election violence has had devastating consequences.
Nana Mankata I stressed that politicians are prepared to flee the country if violence erupts, with their passports and money ready to escape. However, he questioned the preparedness of ordinary citizens, especially the youth, who would be left to bear the brunt of violence. “What about you?” he asked.

He urged the youth to think about their families, children, nieces, nephews, and parents before engaging in any violent activities. “Any politician who comes to you, listen to them, but stay away from violence,” he stressed.
He emphasized the importance of prioritizing peace and protecting the well-being of families and communities.

Nana Mankata I’s message comes as Ghana prepares for the December polls, and his call for peace resonates with the nation’s desire for a stable and democratic electoral process.
