Former IGP Paul Tawiah Quaye Reported Dead

Ex-police chief remembered for discipline and reforms in the service

Former Inspector-General of Police, Paul Tawiah Quaye, has reportedly passed away after a period of illness.

Although official confirmation from his family is yet to be finalised, tributes have begun pouring in from senior figures within the Ghana Police Service, honouring his legacy as a dedicated law enforcement officer.

Mr Quaye was appointed IGP in 2009 by the late John Evans Atta Mills. During his tenure, he was known for his firm stance on discipline and efforts to modernise the Police Service.

He introduced initiatives aimed at restoring public confidence and strengthening professionalism within the force.

Often described by colleagues as a “gentle giant” for his calm yet authoritative leadership style, Mr Quaye served for decades before retiring in 2013.

His passing marks the loss of a significant figure in Ghana’s law enforcement history.
