Ghana Football Association Sacks Otto Addo After Poor Run

Black Stars seek new direction ahead of World Cup after losses to Austria and Germany raise concerns

The Ghana Football Association has dismissed Otto Addo as the head coach of the senior men’s national team, effective immediately, after a series of poor results by the Black Stars.

This decision follows several disappointing performances, including recent losses to Austria and Germany in international friendlies, which raised concerns about the team’s readiness ahead of the World Cup.

In a brief statement, the GFA thanked Otto Addo for his service and contributions to Ghanaian football.

“The Association wishes to thank Otto Addo sincerely for his contribution to the team and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavors,” the statement read.

Otto Addo, who previously led the Black Stars during key tournaments like the 2022 FIFA World Cup, departs at a crucial time as the team ramps up preparations for the upcoming World Cup.

His departure signals a change in technical leadership as the GFA aims to address performance issues and rebuild the team’s confidence.

Ghana faces a tough challenge in Group L of the World Cup, where they will compete against England, Panama, and Croatia.

The GFA announced that it will soon communicate the new technical direction for the Black Stars, including the appointment of a new head coach, as preparations speed up for the tournament.

This decision to part ways with Otto Addo highlights the urgency within Ghana’s football authorities to improve the team’s recent performance and ensure a stronger showing in future international competitions.
