HOOLIGANISM IN GHANA FOOTBALL: LUCKY TV SPORTS TEAM DELVES INTO ITS HISTORY.
Hooliganism in Ghana football seems to be recurring in a time we thought it was far lost to history in a football loving nation like Ghana.
Incidents like what happened to the Tamale Football Club on their return from a match, brings back memories of very sad days in Ghana’s football; and the Lucky TV sports team did justice to that on the very first episode of On the Field.
Evans Nana Akwasi Ahuren, a member of the team, delved into the darkest day in Ghana’s history regarding hooliganism in football, which occurred in 1977 at the Accra Sports Stadium between two of Ghana’s biggest clubs, Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
When this incident happened 46 years ago, it was the view of many that, that would have been the last of it, but 26 years later, history repeated itself at Accra Sports Stadium on May 9 2021 between Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
Sadly, no businessman is ready to invest in such an atmosphere.
Why should football clubs be punished for an action that they didn’t play any part in? We are of the view that individuals who engage in such acts are the ones that must be identified and punished and not the clubs.
