Manhyia Palace denies meddling in OSP probe involving Paul Adom Okyere

The Manhyia Palace has denied allegations that it played any role in the recent release of media personality Paul Adom-Otchere from the custody of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

The response follows widespread media speculation suggesting that the palace intervened to facilitate Adom-Otchere’s release after his brief detention over a controversial revenue assurance contract awarded during his tenure as Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited.

Speaking in an interview on Opemsuo Radio, which is a Manhyia-affiliated station, a senior palace official, referred to only as “Prof,” clarified the official stance of the Asantehene’s palace.

He asserted that unless a message or endorsement is issued directly by the Chief of Staff, one of the Otumfuo’s secretaries, or the Chief Linguist, it should not be considered the official position of Manhyia.

“As you know, Manhyia has a process for handling such matters. Any official communication must come from the Chief of Staff, the Otumfuo’s secretaries, or through the linguist,” he stated.

“So, if a chief says something somewhere, it is not related to Manhyia. They shouldn’t associate Manhyia with their personal dealings. How often does Paul Adom-Otchere even come to Manhyia?”

The statement comes after Adom-Otchere, upon his release, expressed gratitude to several individuals and institutions, including the Manhyia Palace, implying they had criticised the original bail conditions set by the OSP and helped secure his release.

Adom-Otchere was detained on July 31, 2025, in connection with a revenue assurance contract reportedly awarded by the GACL without adherence to proper procurement procedures.
