Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to Lead ECOWAS Election Mission in Benin

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been appointed to lead the ECOWAS Election Observation Mission for the upcoming presidential election in Benin.

The election is scheduled to take place on April 12, 2026.

According to a statement from his office, Akufo-Addo will head a diverse and multidisciplinary delegation composed of diplomats, electoral experts, and representatives from national electoral bodies across ECOWAS member states.

The team will also include members of the ECOWAS Parliament, the Council of the Wise, and officials from the ECOWAS Court of Justice.

He is expected to arrive in Cotonou on April 8, 2026, and return to Accra on April 15, 2026.
