NDC begs Kufour for Dela Edem’s unpleasant words towards him
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued a strong condemnation of recent comments made by Dela Edem, a member of its National Communications Team and an aide to former President John Mahama, concerning former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
This comes after a viral video surfaced in which Mr Edem was seen making disparaging remarks about Mr Kufuor, prompting swift reactions from the party.
In an official press statement released on Sunday, November 17, the NDC openly criticised Mr Edem’s comments, describing them as “unsavoury and distasteful.”
The statement, signed by the party’s Communications Director, Sammy Gyamfi, made it clear that the NDC does not condone any disrespect towards senior statesmen, irrespective of their political affiliations.
The party went further to join Mr Edem in extending an apology to former President Kufuor, recognising the inappropriate nature of the remarks.
They also highlighted the former President’s significant contributions to the progress of Ghana, asserting that such comments did not align with the party’s values or its standards of respectful political engagement.
John Agyekum Kufuor, who led Ghana as President from 2001 to 2009, is held in high regard for his statesmanship and contributions to national development.
The NDC reiterated its dedication to fostering a respectful political climate, urging all members to maintain decorum, especially when addressing the nation’s past leaders.
“The attention of the National Communications Bureau of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has been drawn to some unfortunate comments attributed to one of its members, Comrade Dela Edem and directed at the person of former President and elderly statesman, H.E. John Agyekum Kufour.”
“The said comments are unsavoury and distasteful. It is therefore refreshing to note that our comrade in question has duly retracted his statements and rendered an unqualified apology to the elderly statesman.”
“The NDC adds its voice to the apology that has been rendered and hopes that this retraction and apology brings closure to the matter,” an excerpt of the statement said.
