NPP must aim to secure parliamentary majority in 2028 – Afenyo-Markin

Effutu MP and Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has called on the NPP to aim for a clear parliamentary majority in the 2028 elections.

During a meeting with the Tertiary Students Confederacy on Wednesday, March 25, he expressed confidence despite the party’s current minority in Parliament. “We are 87, but we are mighty,” he stated, minimizing the impact of the governing side’s numerical edge and reaffirming the NPP’s strength as a political force.

Afenyo-Markin stressed the importance of turning this strength into electoral success by securing a strong majority to support Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

He compared the current political climate to the buildup before the 2016 elections, noting a similar wave of optimism. The Effutu MP also indicated uncertainty within the NDC regarding its leadership, contrasting it with the NPP’s preparedness with a “tried and tested” candidate.

He urged party members to stay united and support Dr. Bawumia in leading Ghana’s next phase of development.
