NPP presents Kwame Asumadu as candidate for Akwatia by-election

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has endorsed Solomon Kwame Asumadu, the CEO of Owuo Mining Company, as its parliamentary candidate for the upcoming Akwatia by-election.
The Eastern Regional Chairman of the NPP, Jeff Konadu Addo, made this known at a press briefing in Parliament on Monday, [July 28, 2025].
According to him, the decision followed extensive stakeholder consultations, during which a proposal to organise a primary was overwhelmingly rejected in favour of a consensus-based approach.
“We commissioned research and gathered the names of all individuals who had expressed interest in contesting. After evaluating the findings, it was clear that Solomon Kwame Asumadu stood out as the most suitable candidate,” he said.
He noted that the research findings were presented to the party’s National Council, which subsequently approved Asumadu’s candidacy.
The Electoral Commission has set September 2, 2025 for the by-election to elect a new representative for the people in Parliament following the death of the Member of Parliament for the area, Ernest Kumi.
