Prez. Mahama Receives Honorary PhD from Yonsei University
John Dramani Mahama honoured in Seoul for contributions to national development, public service and strengthening Ghana–South Korea relations

President John Dramani Mahama has been awarded an honorary Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Public Administration by Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, in recognition of his contributions to national development, governance and international engagement.
The honour was conferred on Friday, March 13, 2026, by the university’s leadership, including its President, Yoon Dog-sup, and Dean of the Graduate School, Kim Hyun-chul.

In his acceptance speech, President Mahama dedicated the award to the people of Ghana, describing it as a reflection of the strong ties and mutual respect between Ghana and South Korea.
“This honour you have bestowed upon me today is one that I accept on behalf of all the people of Ghana as a symbol of the deep respect, mutual relations, and admiration that exist between our two countries,” he said.
President Mahama also highlighted the importance of international cooperation and youth empowerment, calling for stronger collaboration among nations to address global challenges.
He expressed hope that the relationship between Ghana and South Korea would continue to grow, urging countries to prioritize peace, cooperation and optimism.

Mahama further encouraged students, particularly those at Yonsei University, to pursue truth, knowledge and excellence in their academic and professional journeys.
The honorary doctorate recognises his years of public service and global engagement, while also strengthening academic and diplomatic relations between Ghana and South Korea.
