Rans Logistics refunds GH¢19.1m after audit exposes overpayment — Deputy Finance Minister

Rans Logistics has reimbursed GH¢19.1 million to the government after being found in the Auditor-General’s report to have overpaid for grain transportation, part of a broader GH¢68 billion in arrears.

Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem shared this at a Public Accounts Committee meeting on 30 March, viewing it as early evidence that the audit is producing results. He noted that the findings, presented to Parliament on 10 March, prompted immediate action by the involved company, which responded within a week.

Rans Logistics, accused of overpayment, refunded GH¢19.1 million, though the full amount due was not recovered, as the company also received excess rice valued at over 7,000 metric tonnes.

The Deputy Minister indicated that further measures are being considered, with the Attorney-General preparing recommendations for addressing all infractions. He emphasized that this development underscores the importance of the Auditor-General’s efforts in protecting public resources, demonstrating that the audit is fulfilling its purpose of safeguarding public funds.
