Scrap off the Barari DV lithium agreement – Fmr. Chief Justice tells the government

Contracts that are designed to prioritize the interests of foreign companies over those of Ghana should be stopped, former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo has said.
She wants the country to move away from such contracts if it is to benefit from the full benefits of mining.

She said this when commenting on the current lithium agreement that Ghana has signed, which is said to be favorable to the country.
She said this particular contract is not different from the previous ‘Guggisberg-type’ agreements.

Speaking as a Distinguished Scholar of the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) in Accra on Tuesday, November 28, Madam Sophia Akuffo said, “The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources and the CEO of the Minerals Commission have touted themselves as favorable to Ghana, surpassing all those other lithium leases around the world.
