SEFWI YOUTH THREATEN TO STAGE MASSIVE DEMONSTRATION AGAINST CHIEF FOR MISUSING MONEY MEANT FOR DEVELOPMENT

A group calling itself Concerned Youth of Sefwi Yawmatwa, has threatened to embark on a massive demonstration to register their displeasure against the Krontihene of Yawmatwa in the Bia West district of the Western North region.

The youth say, the Kontihene, Nana Yaw Barimah who is also the 2022 Western North regional best farmer, was the middleman who ensured the selling off and felling of timber to a company in the town but all efforts to get the money accrued to be used for the promised development have proved futile.

Again, Cocobod, the body that governs cocoa production, processing, marketing,

and distribution in Ghana introduced a cocoa rehabilitation programme in 2017.

This program helped farmers remove their old trees and replace them with hybrid varieties, which produce more pods and increase farmers’ income.

Sefwi Yawmatwa, one of the leading cocoa producing communities in Ghana was greatly affected by the programme.

The Youth allege that, the Chief who was instrumental during the felling of the numerous cocoa trees, encouraged the youth to rally behind the government with the promise that, all the compensation from their lost cocoa farms would be used to construct befitting schools, markets, a CHPS compound and a modern laboratory.

But after the compensation was paid to him, none of the promised development has taken place.

All efforts to get him to account for the monies have proved futile.

The youth say they cannot sit aloof whilst members of the community continue to suffer because of the interest of an individual.
