No more overreliance on Zoomlion! One company should not be allowed to handle waste from Accra to Paga – A Plus

We will empower the youth of Gomoa Central with the right tools to take full control of waste collection

In a post sighted by Deedew Online on the official Facebook page of vociferous Member of Parliament for the good people of Gomoa Central Constituency, Hon. Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus has made a strong conviction which we believe various constituencies should emulate, in the post he wrote

“no more overreliance on Zoomlion! One company should not be allowed to handle waste from Accra to Paga. If we decentralize waste management, young people can set up their own companies in each district and become self-reliant.

Kwame A Plus with some Investors in Gomoa Central Constituency

It’s unacceptable for one person to dominate every sector—from maize importation to IT to DRIP machines. Other MPs can allow that in their districts and constituencies, but as for me, my incoming DCE and I are like “twins” and we are united in our quest to reset Gomoa Central — we will support young people to take over waste collection.

For example, we can procure well-covered tricycles from MASLOC on hire purchase for young people to manage waste collection.

If MASLOC supplies these tricycles to all 261 districts and recovers the funds through deductions from the District Assemblies’ Common Fund to MASLOC, isn’t that a better system? Decentralization means decentralization! Claiming to decentralize but having only one company that collects waste from Accra to Paga is like spending money on a safe sex campaign but banning condoms.

And if anyone thinks this will lead to mountains of waste piling up in communities, they’re stuck in 1935 thinking. There are simple, affordable machines that can convert waste into valuable products. Waste management is not rocket science!

The President, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, has directed that 80% of the District Assemblies Common Fund should go directly to the Assemblies, and the Minister for Finance has made it clear that all contracts must now receive approval from the Finance Ministry. That’s is the meaning of reset.
