The Policy of abstaining from Sex and not using condoms is the cause of the high rate of teenage pregnancy in schools, says the CEO of Care Love Foundation
The CEO of the Care Love Foundation for the Ghana AIDS Commission, Madam Agatha Jonah, says the “Abstain from Sex” and Not to Use Condom Policy by the Ghana Education Service (GES) in our schools is worrying and has not yielded any results, but rather the course of high teenage pregnancy in the Central Region and must be reviewed.
In an interview with Lucky TV Reporter Odehyeɛba Gilbert, Madam Agatha Jonah explained that most of the teenagers who get pregnant as early as 13yrs these days are mainly coursed by the Ghana Education Service, due to their policy of sexual Abstainance, hence students end up getting pregnant and contracting the HIV/AIDS virus.
Though abstinence is good, the policy has to teach the students how to use condoms and their benefits in bringing down the level of teenage pregnancy and STDs in the region, she said.
Madam Agatha Jonah therefore advises the students to be more focused on their Education than sex and the public should also receive the test-up for kids to know their status when they bring it to their doorstep.
Adding to this, the Technical Coordinator for the AIDS Commission Central Region Mr William Kwaku Yeboah said collective efforts are needed to fight against the rise in teenage pregnancy and HIV/AIDS.
