THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN IN NIGERIA, NIGERIANS REJOICE AS RAILA ODINGO WINS KENYAN ELECTION PETITION
Presidential elections were held in Kenya on 26th October 2017, following the supreme court’s annulment of the results of the presidential vote in the August 2017 general elections, which saw Uhuru Kenyatta of the Jubilee Party, the incumbent, win with a percentage of 54.17% of the total votes cast to defeat Raila Odingo of the Organge Democratic Movement [ODM] who had 44.9%.
However, the opposition, led by Odinga, petitioned the Supreme Court to intervene, alleging that the incumbent, Mr. Kenyatta, rigged the election following irregularities, so the election must be annulled and a re-election held within 60 days.
“The presidential election was not conducted in accordance with the Constitution, rendering and declared results invalid, null and void. Chief Justice David Maraga, as a matter of urgency must order fresh elections within 60 days”. It is the first of it’s kind in Kenyan and Africa politics.
Meanwhile, Nigeria is likely to follow in the foot steps of Kenya, after their just ended elections held on 25th February, 2023 to elect their president and vice president was challenged by Nigeria’s political darling man Peter Obi, that was dogged with some irregularities.
Labour Party Candidate heads to the Supreme Court of Nigeria to challenge the ruling party’s candidate victory in the February polls.
“We are challenging the qualifications of the candidate that was declared the winner. We are also challenging the process that led to his declaration as the winner “, Labour Party, Spokesperson Yunnsa Tanko, told journalists.
The Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC] has apologized for technical problems during the count.
Bola Tinubu, the president-elect will be sworn in on May 29 despite the court case challenging his victory, the Information and Culture Minister, Lai Mohammed, has said.
He, however, noted the opposition political parties have the right to challenge the outcome of the presidential elections.
Tinubu polled 8,794,726 to defeat the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar who polled 6,984,520 votes.
With this, Nigeria is expecting the verdict of their Supreme Court to turnout like that of Kenya’s 2017 election petition by their Supreme Court.
