WORLD DAY AGAINST CHILD LABOUR : URGENCY NEEDED IN GHANA – Enoch Dery Pufaa (Director of Programs, Challenging Heights)

In an phone interview with the Mr. Enoch Dery, Director of Programmes for Challenging Heights, an NGO, which specializes in Child Labour issues on Lucky TV, he said that looking at the theme for this year’s Child Labour Day, which is; ”Protecting Children Against Child Labour” now more than ever, he feels as a country we should attach some form of urgency to child Labour issues.

He urged both government and non- governmental organizations to put in more effort in handling child labour issues in the country.

According to him, about 21% of all children in Ghana are in child labour situations.

About 33% of children in the Northern Sector are involved in child labour whilst in the Southern Sector the figure is 60%.

He added that government must as a matter or urgency, increase its investment and funding especially to State Agencies to help reduce Child labour drastically.
