28 foreigners, landlords arrested in Amansie West over unlawful entry into Ghana

A joint task force from the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Immigration Service has detained 28 foreigners and some landlords in Amansie West District, Ashanti Region, for entering the country without proper documentation.

The suspects were found at their homes in Pakyi No.1 and Pakyi No.2 during a raid. Prince Manu Morris, the District Chief Executive for Amansie West, explained that the landlords were arrested for renting to foreigners without approval from the district assembly.

He warned landlords against renting to undocumented immigrants, emphasizing that such conduct violates Ghanaian laws.
“Landlords must verify the status of tenants before renting out their properties. Renting to undocumented immigrants is against the laws of Ghana,” he said.

Mr. Morris also stated that the district assembly, together with the Immigration Service, will continue to enforce laws against foreigners who unlawfully settle in the district.

Many suspects are believed to be involved in illegal mining, known as Galamsey, and other illicit activities damaging Manso’s reputation.
“These individuals mainly engage in Galamsey and other activities that harm Manso’s image. The operation is ongoing,” he added.

This marks the second crackdown by the district assembly and immigration authorities targeting undocumented immigrants in the area.
