Police Hunt Six Armed Robbers After Deadly Attack on Berekum Chelsea Bus
Footballer shot dead as team bus veers off road while fleeing attackers in Ashanti Region

The Ghana Police Service in the Ashanti Region has launched a manhunt for six armed men who ambushed a team bus belonging to Berekum Chelsea on Sunday night, killing one player and making away with GH¢4,500.00 from another passenger.
In a statement released on April 13, 2026, the police said patrol teams responded to distress calls and arrived at the scene along the Ahyiresu–Kwame Dwumor Sreso road. They found a VIP bus, registered AM 9334-20, which had veered off into nearby bushes as the driver attempted to escape the attackers.
The bus was carrying about 30 players and officials of Berekum Chelsea who were travelling from Samreboi to Berekum when they were attacked by six armed men, three of whom were reportedly wielding pump-action guns.
During the incident, a player identified as Dominic Frimpong sustained gunshot wounds. He was rushed to the Bibiani Government Hospital but died while receiving treatment. Another victim, George Owusu Afriyie, 52, was robbed of GH¢4,500.
Police retrieved two spent BB cartridges from the scene to aid investigations.
The Regional Police Command has since deployed additional personnel and crime scene experts to the area as efforts intensify to track down the suspects. Authorities have assured the public that the perpetrators will be arrested as soon as possible.
The police also called on residents to remain calm and maintain confidence in the service as investigations continue.
