Queiroz Targets Immediate Impact as Black Stars Coach

Newly appointed Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has pledged to deliver immediate results, insisting he brings experience and a clear vision to restore Ghana’s competitive edge.
Speaking after his unveiling, Queiroz struck a confident tone, stating that his tenure will be defined by performance rather than experimentation. “I am a winning coach,” he said, signalling his readiness to meet the high expectations of leading the Ghana national football team.
His appointment comes at a crucial time, with the team seeking stability after a string of inconsistent performances. Queiroz replaces Otto Addo, who was dismissed following defeats to Austria and Germany.
The 73-year-old has signed a short-term deal focused on guiding Ghana through qualification and competition at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Describing the role as deeply personal, Queiroz highlighted his African roots, having been born in Mozambique, and expressed pride in leading one of the continent’s top football nations.
He is expected to prioritise discipline, defensive organisation, and tactical balance, hallmarks of his coaching career as he evaluates the current squad ahead of upcoming fixtures.
Preparations for the World Cup will include friendly matches against Mexico and Wales, offering an early test of his strategies.
Ghana, making its fifth appearance at the tournament, has been drawn in a challenging Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama. The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England and Croatia.
With past group-stage exits still fresh, expectations are high for a stronger showing, as Queiroz takes on the task of leading Ghana beyond the opening round.
