Club to cover burial costs as football community mourns 20-year-old defender killed in tragic attack

Aduana Football Club has officially announced the funeral arrangements for their late player, Dominic Frimpong, in a statement released on Sunday.

The 20-year-old tragically lost his life after an armed attack on the team of Berekum Chelsea while they were returning to Berekum following a Ghana Premier League fixture against FC Samartex.

Reports indicate that Frimpong was shot in the head during the incident and was later pronounced dead after being rushed to the Bibiani Government Hospital. Other players who were involved in the attack sustained minor injuries.

According to Aduana FC, the final funeral rites will take place on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at Assin Dansame, where family members, teammates, and football stakeholders are expected to gather to pay their last respects.

The club confirmed that the family of the deceased has formally communicated the arrangements to key stakeholders, including Dr. Agyemang Badu II, as preparations continue.

As part of its support, Aduana FC stated that all outstanding financial entitlements owed to the player, including unpaid monthly salaries, will be handed over to his family.

The club also revealed that it is working closely with the bereaved family to ensure a dignified burial, with all funeral expenses fully covered as a gesture of honour and respect.

Aduana FC further called on members of the football fraternity and the general public to join in mourning the young player and celebrating his life and contribution to the sport.

“May Dominic Frimpong continue to rest in perfect peace,” the statement concluded.

The announcement was signed by Evans Oppong, Corporate Affairs and External Relations Manager of Aduana FC.
