GES Releases Funds to Restore Food Supply in Senior High Schools
Ghana Education Service moves to ease feeding challenges with dedicated funds for perishable items

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has authorised the release of funds for the procurement of perishable food items for Senior High and Technical Schools (SHTS) across the country.
The intervention, announced in a statement on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, is expected to resolve recent challenges affecting the feeding component of the Free Senior High School programme.
School administrators have in recent weeks struggled to secure fresh produce such as vegetables, meat, and eggs due to rising market prices and supply chain constraints.
According to the statement, signed by the Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, the Service has activated the necessary processes to ensure swift and equitable disbursement of the funds to beneficiary schools.
The move is aimed at sustaining students’ nutritional needs while easing operational pressures on second-cycle institutions, which have faced mounting concerns from the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools and other stakeholders.
GES emphasised that strict accountability measures have been put in place to ensure the funds are used solely for their intended purpose.
“Strict monitoring and accountability mechanisms have been put in place to ensure that the funds are used judiciously,” the statement noted, adding that auditors and regional coordinators will oversee expenditure at the school level.
The release of funds is expected to ease tensions between school authorities and the Ministry of Education Ghana, while helping to stabilise the academic environment and safeguard student welfare.
GES further reassured parents and the public of its commitment to improving educational outcomes and ensuring that students’ access to adequate nutrition is not disrupted.
