JUST LIKE WE ARE NOT BEING ABLE TO ADD VALUE TO OUR RAW MATERIALS, WE ARE DOING SAME TO OUR FOOTBALL TALENTS – Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom

In a Facebook post he made which he dubs “Football in Ghana – Part 3”, the founder of GN Group wrote
“We are doing in football what we do in other areas of Ghanaian life. We export cocoa, timber, gold, oil etc., etc., because we are not able to add value and earn more income right here in Ghana.
Our professionals in many fields travel “abroad” or “overseas” because the pay and benefits there are much, much better than what they can get here. Except that the “expatriate” professional earns more in salaries and consultancy fees than the Ghanaian counterpart.

So when I heard about the sale of the majority of the shares in Accra Lions to a German, it didn’t surprise me that the buyer stated his objective – to develop players to sell in the European football market.
Who will develop the local league and make it attractive for spectators and profitable for owners and players?
Do we realize that the signal we are sending to players is that if they want to be selected to play for the Black Stars they should join a team outside Ghana, preferably in Europe and UK. Those who play for local teams here in Ghana are treated as “sankwas”.
How are we going to reap trophies and medals with this attitude? he quizzed.
