U-20 World Cup : Coach Basigi’s statement reflects a strong determination and commitment to surpassing expectations in the upcoming competition.

It indicates that he and his team are fully focused on achieving a goal that goes beyond merely advancing from the group stage. This ambition suggests they are aiming for a deeper run or success in the tournament, showing their confidence and readiness to perform at their best.

Yussif Basigi, the head coach of Ghana’s Women’s U-20 team, is determined to lead his team beyond the group stage in the upcoming FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia. Ghana has participated in six previous editions but has never progressed past the group stage, with their best performance being in 2012 when they earned six points but still did not advance.

Basigi acknowledged challenges faced during previous tournaments, including the administrative issues during the 2018 edition under the Normalisation Committee. Despite past setbacks, he emphasized that the team is highly motivated and focused on breaking the jinx this time around.

During the team’s Media Day in Cape Coast, Basigi expressed confidence in their preparation and the collective goal to make a significant impact in the competition. He stressed the difficulty of the task ahead but assured that they are fully committed to achieving their goal of advancing past the group stage.

Ghana’s Women’s U-20 team, known as the Black Princesses, will compete in Group E against Austria, New Zealand, and Japan. With the tournament expanded to 24 teams, Basigi sees this as an opportunity to finally achieve their goal and make history for Ghana in women’s youth football.
