
Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, the parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has won the Ayawaso East by-election after polling 10,884 votes, representing 63 percent of the total ballots cast.
The by-election, conducted on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, across 113 polling stations in the Greater Accra Region, recorded a low voter turnout, with 16,928 ballots cast out of about 50,000 registered voters.

His main contender, Baba Ali Yusif of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), secured 4,009 votes, representing 23 percent. Independent candidate Mohammed Umar Sanda came third with 1,885 votes. Ibrahim Iddrisu of the Liberal People’s Party (LPG) garnered 43 votes, while independent candidate David Kanor received 104 votes.
The election was held following the death of the sitting Member of Parliament, Nasser Toure Mahama, who passed away in January 2026.
Baba Jamal is expected to be sworn into Parliament by the Speaker, Alban Bagbin, at the next sitting of the House.
