Sachet Water Producers Hold Prices Amid Rising Costs, Seek Government Relief

Manufacturers say they will absorb financial losses for up to two months to ease pressure on consumers, while urging state support for the struggling industry

Manufacturers of sachet water packaging are calling on the government to offer relief to support the industry, which has decided to keep prices steady despite increasing production costs.

Ebbo Botwe, President of the Ghana Plastic Manufacturers’ Association, made this appeal during a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.

“We hope the Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry will convey this positive message to His Excellency the President so that we might also receive some reliefs we deserve,” he stated.

He explained that manufacturers initially planned to raise prices due to higher costs of polymers used in sachet water packaging.

“After considering her comments and recognizing that sachet water is a basic necessity for over 33 million Ghanaians, and understanding that returning to the old prices would mean losing money, we decided to absorb the shock because we love Ghana and want it to thrive.”

Mr. Botwe added that the industry intends to keep current prices unchanged for at least one to two months despite financial strains.

“Yes, we will lose money, but we will absorb the shock and maintain the old prices for at least a month or two, hoping it will benefit sachet water producers as well.”
